Today I will remember to start the coffee brewing. As soon as the coverage on Stage 8 of the TdF begins, if not sooner.

Today I will see Gloria. It will have been 56 days since. This time I won’t mention it.

Today I will take something to keep me busy. Probably the spreadsheet. I will still be playing with that 5600 days from now, when the last of a dying breed are coughing their last.

Today I will get out and about. It has been too easy not to. I have not been sleeping well again, and I have been tiring too easily.

Today I will catch up. On at least one or two small corners. That will have to be enough for today. And it will be, if I don’t fall back behind to morrow.

Spring Cleaning the Garage

leave a comment »

Today Natalie should learn that she’s made the UH cheerleading squad.

Today we’ll put up with Houston’s humid heat as long as possible to bring spring cleaning to the garage. Which inevitably means I’ll be found in the pool before too very long.

Today Dylan and Lady are getting groomed — haircut and bath. And I’ll steam clean the ground floor carpeting. Those two events together should alleviate the severe allergy attacks I’ve had this past week.

As for me, I celebrate Mother’s Day on each of her children’s birthdays. (Father’s Day of course comes around those same days, not that that matters today.)

For my shot of Dylan today, I think I’ll just settle for Mama, You Been On My Mind.

I will swim again today.

Today I will be singing Dylan songs that refer to trains in honor of National Train Day. Starting with House of the Rising Sun and Freight Train Blues – even though those were only covered by Bob, he did them justice. Ditto “I Was Young When I Left Home” from No Direction Home. Putting my ear to the tracks in Trouble and charming the whistle in Silvio, then riding out on Bob Dylan’s Dream and It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry and I’ll Keep It with Mine and Paths of Victory and Little Sadie and Goin’ to Acapulco and Down in the Flood and Stack A Lee and Sittin’ On Top of the World and Something’s Burning, Baby and of course Slow Train. And Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance When I Paint My Masterpiece to come Standing in the Doorway and ask Where Are You Tonight? Even what Mona tried to warn about in Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again, and even those two men in I and I, and and even his memory of that Brownsville Girl, and even his Last Thoughts on Woodie Guthrie. And I’ll throw in Visions of Johanna‘s D train and the caboose from Only a Pawn In Their Game for good measure. And everything else in between from Simple Twist of Fate and Train A-Travelin‘ and Ballad for a Friend and John Brown and Poor Boy Blues beyond to Gypsy Lou and to Walk Out In The Rain and to Silent Weekend and to Things Have Changed and to When the Deal Goes Down.

I will polish up my memorandum on how the safety valve cannot be used to excuse discrimintory plan amendments.

Gertie will get a clean cage today. And I will clip some more of the foliage in the back yard. After which I will take the first pool dip of the season.
