One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee ’fore I go
To the valley below

Bob Dylan, One More Cup Of Coffee (Valley Below)

In my world, that “one more cup” would be a bottomless cup. In my world, it would come from a coffee machine hooked up directly to my hot water heater with a built-in filter system that required a simple change only every decade or so. In my world, that coffee machine would have its coffee ground on demand from a wide variety of blends available internally like those swank new freestyle soda machines they have that dispense hundreds of variations without more user intervention than pushing a few selection buttons. With the dairy and sugar substitutes added just as easily, even the occasional nip of a liqueur. And whipped cream when it suits me. With something drizzled on top, perhaps. In my world, my selections could be made from my desk or armchair via an iGadget app, with the ability to have Siri take my order by voice. Oh yeah, I’m move my lazy butt enough to actually walk to the kitchen to retrieve it when it’s ready, but let the machine power up out of energy-saving mode and start brewing via a wireless connection through my network, instead of making me stand by the coffee machine waiting for it to do its business while I waste time playing watchpot. In my world, the coffee machine would then dispose of its own grounds, at most making me empty its waste no more often than I change our cat litter boxes. And most of all, in my world the set-up and operation of such a coffee machine would be simple and intuitive, with instructions that can be easily understood without having to call the coffee machine company up on its 800 help line.

Kinda Like a Lion

Adrien

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN,
PREGNANT OR NURSING WOMEN,
OR THOSE SENSITIVE TO CAFFEINE.

Which makes this fuel can, which I was too tired to get around to emptying last night, quite suitable for launching March.

This morning’s midnight rant belonging to insomnia leftover February, wandering into wild hypnagogic visions of an official form one could submit to the county to formally request not being victimized by any particular selected crime.

Although Tiny and his ward did their damnedest to get the month proper launched with a roar, let’s pretend that the past few days of bitching have cleared my system enough to give me some open air for a spell here. Think: Born Free, maybe.

Making it through the morning rant-free then becoming impossible unless I learn from countless previous mistakes (in this case otherwise known as launching IE) and recover from a a MicroSuck-imposed hard crash by avoiding as much MSuck software as possible the remainder of the day…week…month…year, even.

So let’s aim some of this energy at good ends, such as –

  • We’ll vacuum the bedroom and bathroom.
  • We’ll rip and sync Enya’s And Winter Came.
  • We’ll clean Gertie‘s cage, then clean up the sink and mirror.
  • We’ll join the fam – including Jenny – at Olive Garden for lunch ( a fantastic chicken soup and shrimp pasta for me).
  • We’ll get Jenny back to the airport for her flight back up to Dallas.

By which time all of the caffeine will have worn off and I’ll be pulling in for enough refill to see me through a few more pages of Finnegans Wake.

Brewed Crude

leave a comment »

Take long enough to get moving on a holiday weekend’s Saturday morning, until after any normal person is already on the second cup of the day, and you’ll find a pot already brewed up by someone else up in the house before you. Then again, there’s nothing quite like mixing up your own cup to suit this morning’s particular twists of bedhead.

Kinda like that spreadsheet enhancement I’ve started working through. Been almost a quarter century now since I first started working out the concept, preparing the early data and routines, then for the next two decades beating my head against a brick wall trying to interest anyone else in collaborating on the idea. But take long enough, and eventually some pot of something goes getting itself brewed out there, crude as it is. And again, there’s just nothing quite like creating the measure yourself if you want to give it the character it deserves.

berg indulgence

I can’t quickly find this Anthon Berg delight popping up anywhere on the Internet just yet, but as long as Susan and Nat can continue to find the product itself wherever they discovered it and keep my nightstand adquately supplied, that’s link enough for me.

Frap on Steroids

Frap on SteroidsWhat I really wanted and needed were some good batteries for my camera so I could have taken snapshots of that traffic accident. (Still pouting.)

But when we were back in our corner convenience store, I mentioned to Susan about having read in Texas Coffee People about Pretend Espresso: Stōk, describing the product to her as best as I could remember.

She perked up and said she thought she recalled seeing those up at the counter. And the guy at the counter brightened up and said he’d already had two today – he drinks them straight, apparently. (Would explain that quirky smile he had, eh?)

I’m dumping one of them in a dark chocolate peppermint mocha frappuccino, then giving the other one to Nat to try out.
