UH Beats Tulsa!

leave a comment »

Nat joins the other UH cheerleaders in celebrating unranked UH’s victory over #25 Tulsa by the score of 70-30!! UH never trailed in the game, shutting out its opponents 14-0 in the first quarter to give Tulsa its first scoreless quarter of the season. All of the UH team showed up tonight, with one UH touchdown from a kickoff return, one from an intercepted pass, and an offense that put it in the end zone eight other times. The game was over within the first minute of the 4th quarter, putting the score far out of reach of even the most desperate Tulsa hopes. While giving the UH mascot – who after each UH score, does as many push-ups as the number of points UH has – quite a nice workout!

Not an Offensive End

leave a comment »

If you can’t join ’em, beat ’em? UH never once led during the entire game, and as I recall never even brought it up to a tie. Although their quarterback has the most total offensive yards of any college quarterback this year, UH has no defense. And I don’t mean they’ve got a bad defense. I mean they literally have no defense. If what they call their defense simply had not even taken to the field, SMU would not have scored any more points any faster than they did.

Except that if UH had no defense, SMU had even less. So with only 24 seconds remained in the game, UH finally pulled ahead. Then the UH defense finally lucked out and caught SMU’s hail mary pass in the opposing end zone as the clock ran out.

If one has to watch football in Dallas, the only way this could have been better would have been if the losing team had been the Cowboys.

UH Cheer Nat

leave a comment »

Nat and her UH Cheer associates encourage the UH football team to a 55-3 win over Southern in the first game of the 2008 season.

(Side Note: No need to take the stadium chairs next time. But the mist fan came in handy. And if we want any snacks, it might be good to get them before the game starts.)

Cougar Pride

Here, Nat has her first pep rally on the UH cheer squad, classes for the fall semester having started this week and the first football game coming up this Saturday.

For future reference, should we decide to mingle with the college crowd at any future UH pep rally: the best views are on the second or third level, standing by the railing (a spot for which one need not arrive as early as we did for our ground-level seats).

Also, no matter what month of the year it is, bring that water bottle with the fan. Whoever had dreams of hosting summer Olympic games in this town must have been sitting out too long in the Houston heat without a hat.

Banquet Cheer

banquet cheer
We’re back from our week in New Orleans in time to join Nat at San Jac’s Cheerleaders’ Banquet. Nat did all the arrangements for the event, so of course everything went quite well.

Well, almost everything. On our arrival at the San Jac room where we were meeting, I was immediately sought after to try to get the computer equipment running so they’d be able to show the powerpoint slide of snapshots at the end of the banquet. A school computer was sitting there locked up to a projector, but nobody could log into the school’s system. Ummm, like I would know how to break into a school’s network?? I’ve got a reputation for breaking computers and networks, not making them work. Eventually, they were able to call someone from elsewhere on the campus to come over and fix things for us.

Good food, pleasant dinner company, good farewell speech from Nat as this past year’s cheerleading team captain, some interesting snapshots in the slideshow, and all that remains is for Nat to remember to turn in her cheerleading uniform.

Halftime Routine – First Draft

with one comment

Nat gives us a preview of the halftime routine she’ll be leading the San Jac cheerleading squad through during their final performance of the regular basketball season next Tuesday night. While watching her here, I was cutting a dozen CDs of the routine’s music for her to hand out to her squad members . . . too late getting hit with the brainstorm that I ought to have filled a little of the blank space on each of those CDs with some pictures and videos of the cheerleaders’ year.

San Jac Sends It To Overtime

leave a comment »

After losing a 22-11 lead in the first half, then losing a 55-44 lead rebuilt in the second half, San Jac struggled valiantly against certain defeat during the final minute of regulation play against Trinity Valley. Upon finally pulling within 1 point with about 6 seconds left to play, San Jac quickly sent the Cardinals to the foul line, where at the beginning of this video clip Trinity Valley opened up a 3-point lead on the second of its two free throws, 76-79.

Nat, San Jac’s head cheerleader at the far right edge of the end of this video clip, shows her excitement over what happens next – the Ravens send the game into overtime.

Where, sad to say, San Jac then returned to the same failed strategy that saw them lose their two regulation-time leads, too quickly going for poor 3-point attempts instead of working for better openings. San Jac lost in overtime 83-85.
