Let’s Get Crackin’

whipI now own a bullwhip! Thank you, SuziQ!

For the community event being planned for this coming September, one of the songs I’ll be singing is Ghost Riders in the Sky, ranked as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time. I’ve been coming along pretty well on practicing the song itself, so it’s come time to work on gear and such. Like, maybe finally getting myself another pair of boots. And can I really do this without a cowboy hat?

Watch out, it’s Tex!!!

I’m told a boycott is being organized. On behalf of me and a friend.

Please don’t.

Happy Dance

Finally, I’m learning to dance! At least, enough so to look forward to dancing in public without feeling uncomfortable about how awkward I still am.

Love Is the True Pink

vDay

One needn’t be an escapist indulging in fantasy to have fun. Far the contrary, the best fun comes from love, and love is the purest fun. So he who is too “practical” to accept fun is missing out on the most real experience of life: the joy of doing things together.

Jury’s Out

“The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.”

John Wooden

Oh, I don’t know. After all, I’ve been severely rapped on the knuckles for being so unacceptable as to find pleasure in doing concrete, real, lasting kindnesses that I will never be known for doing. Curiously, by the same critic who just as severely mocked me as caring too much about what people think of me just because I happen to object to crude lies being spread about me. Whatever. What’s left unspoken in Wooden’s remark is what went ignored in both of those unjust criticisms: consistency — do I do it differently when no one is watching than I do when the whole world is inspecting?

I’m Gonna Be a Grandma!!

leave a comment »

“If you wouldn’t be too embarrassed…,” Ron comments.

Ummm, me be embarrassed? Has he not been to any of my performances?? Oh sure, there have been times when I have been offended by insults about who I am or what I do, but only when the ridicule has lacked truth. Like, when my eighth grade English teacher publicly ridiculed a composition I’d written as having been influenced by “too much TV,” unaware that she was speaking of a child who had grown up with no TV at all. But anyone who has ever accused me of worrying about what people think of me simply doesn’t know me at all. I’m not out to make fans or collect groupies. Sharing a smile or too will do quite fine, thank you.

So yes, I’ll be the grandma for our Singers’ rendition this Christmas of Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer. And have fun doing so. I don’t happen to believe a person has to be unrealistic to know how to have fun with living. This place needs a few more grandma types who have fun being who they are, right?
