Got Me an E Harmonica

Recent & Coming Tunes

I’m not yet sure what I might be using my new E harmonica for: I don’t know of anything I’ve got coming up that might be in E, or that I might be able to try some cross harp on in B. But I’ve had enough other songs to sing lately, with more on the way in the near future.

Tonight I sang a duet with Diane at our community Christmas concert, doing the response lines on Baby It’s Cold Outside. And other than a very minor error of singing “lucky that you dropped in” for the first verse, so making myself go back to “hoping that you’d drop in” for the second, I remembered all my lines. And managed to avoid the recent fad of lawsuits arising from such situations in real life.

A few weeks ago, for a Ragtimers gig, I sang a solo on Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter, making it more real for myself by visualizing it as the regret of a newly elected president anticipating getting no love letters from his constituency for the next two years. Then also filled in as a substitute for Ann, who had a family emergency, so sang a solo on In the Jailhouse Now, playing my G harmonica for the yodel parts.

Plus of course, for both the community Christmas concert and the Ragtimers gig, sang with the groups. And for the Ragtimers gig, played my ukulele on the songs when I wasn’t singing solo.

About a week from now, I’ll be singing Corrina, Corrina at another Ragtimers concert. Not the Dylan version, which is the one with which I am familiar, of course; but rather after the style of Ray Peterson, maybe with a bit of harmonica on the side. Hmmmm, can I maybe get them to shift that to the key of E? At that concert, I’ll also be playing cross harp on a harmonica as background to Ann singing Those Were the Days. And then of course will also be singing with the group and playing my ukulele again.

Then a few days after that, SuziQ and I will be doing a reprise of How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Love You When You Know I’ve Been a Liar All My Life. Except this time we’ll be doing it to a karaoke track instead of to piano accompaniment, and I need to change the key of the karaoke track I currently have.

Meanwhile, this coming Monday our community will have our monthly karaoke night. Still remembering Fats Domino (last month I sang Blueberry Hill), I plan to sing Ain’t That a Shame. And of course since our December karaoke tends to feature a lot of Christmas selections, I’ll no doubt sing a holiday tune or two.

Early next year, Ann wants me to sing Bad Moon Rising at an event she’s planning.

And after we’re past the holidays, our Singers and Ragtimers will resume, plus more karaoke, all with plenty of music to fill my days with song.
