Villanelle to an Unknown Bone

Enough! I think someone has stolen my every bone!
I’ll follow Hortense! She’ll know which way Ivy went.
Ivy, come back! Some things are left better unknown.

Why do all my poems just make the audience groan?
Why are my lines so raw? Why are all my rhymes bent?
Enough! I think someone has stolen my every bone!

Folk’s faces are fine as they are, Ivy. Leave them alone
(Except for your husband — he is half yours to invent).
Ivy, come back! Some things are left better unknown.

Husband? Who’s married?! I’d rather turn into stone.
My handyman’s wages my wives will have already spent!
Enough! I think someone has stolen my every bone!

Tweenie’s like Ivy’s twin, Ivy’s like Tweenie’s clone.
Tweenie, your tea ofttimes makes me quite discontent.
Ivy, come back! Some things are left better unknown.

All the Boardinghouse is a stage! As we have shown,
What’s down in the basement will be found magnificent!!
Ivy, come back! Some things are left better unknown.
Enough! I think someone has stolen my every bone!
