It’s a very trivial observation of passing consequence at best, I know, but I felt a bit of culture clash in coming upon this news article of a rather intriguing archaeological find, then seeing Google’s “Sponsored Links” thinking that it might put me in the mood for purchasing some cologne. Like, would anyone other than Liz Taylor (perhaps hoping to corner the market on a rare fragrance) have clicked the title of this article out of interest for the “perfume” part of the story?

Slow Day

“So what have you learned today?” my mother would challenge me when I came home from school as a child. I made a personal vow very early on that I would never cease asking myself that question, every single day of my life, until the day I die.

On a day like today, I fear my mother would send me back to school to try harder.

I think I may have figured out why the litter box in the back of the house collects significantly more than both of the other litter boxes combined. Since Blue and Cuddles remain in solitary confinement until Christmas is over, obviously they’re not contributing to the litter boxes outside their prison block. Meanwhile, both Precious and Kitty make a point of visiting the inmates at least once daily, sometimes more. And to make sure the kittens don’t forget who really rules the house, they make sure they save up their business during the day and leave their deposits during their visits. So only overnight and occasional other visits by two cats to two litter boxes; as contrasted with saved-up action from two grown cats and everything the two kittens have to give, all into a single litter box? The disparity makes sense.

I’ve also finally learned – took me this many years on this one – that it is impossible for a right-handed man to clip his own right thumbnail without risking the clipping flying off into an unknown spot of the room. (I long ago already learned how to find where it flew: walk across the room barefoot.)

Cat litter math and the physics of thumbnail clipping. Does education go any higher? Eh, it’s alright Ma, that’s probably still more than most people learn their entire lives.

Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?

christmas meme from susan

A

Both, please.

After I’ve been outside cross country skiing through some northern Vermont snow on a moonlit night when the temperature before wind chill, make it rich hot chocolate, with marshmallows.

But even a refrigerator full of gallons of egg nog never lasts too long with me around. Unless Kathy is there to spike it with twenty times the rum that even the wildest office party would venture to spike it with. Hers, I had to disappear into the bathroom for, figuring the toilet would appreciate it better than I.

Have both hot chocolate and egg nog around, and don’t be surprised to catch me mixing them.
