Lady and the Tramp

lady and the tramp
Coming from behind a dumpster as little Pancake did, I knew enough to take certain hygenic precautions. But until being warned at her first vet appointment later this morning, it completely slipped my mind that she might be at risk for feline leukemia or feline HIV, so needs to be kept apart from the other cats until she can be tested six weeks from now. That’s fine by Precious and Kitty, who so far have shown zero interest in making our new kitten’s acquaintence.

The dogs are more curious of the newcomer. Here, Lady gets a close-up peek. Just before this snapshot, Dylan was licking the kitten as if he were its mother. And Dylan acts protective of non-family people coming close to her box, while alerting us in the middle of the night if the little one stirs. Like Kitty, will this cat’s closest animal friends in the house be the dogs instead of the cats?

Eating Out of My Hand

with one comment

PC aka Pancake made it through her first night fine. She won’t eat from her bottle yet, but she knows what it means when she smells and tastes her formula, whereupon she gets all excited and digs her nose deep into my hand, which she proceeds to suck until I break down and just dribble her formula down into my palm for her to feed from. She gets her first visit to the vet this morning.

Zen Tracks [21] Dylan: Desolation Row

Zen Vision MDesolation RowBob DylanHighway 61 Revisited
[11:21] * * * * *

Genius. Pure visionary genius.

Were I to ever clean everything off my Zen Vision:M to nothing but the barest basics, this would be one of the last scraps of holy scripture surviving all my deletions left to show any archaeologists who might dig the device up 10,000 years hence that we did indeed achieve civilization during this brief moment of history.

I’ve often claimed that if I had ever had a child of my own, I would have wanted him or her to cut their teeth on learning their English from hearing this epic play on daddy’s tape player slash turntable slash CD equipment slash mp3 player day after day after day. Which might explain why I’ve never managed to convince anyone to give me a child to raise. Pity the world.

For every new Zen track I get around to blogging here, I listen to Desolation Row again as much as half a dozen times more. I can’t think of any better way to celebrate today’s 43rd anniversary of the opening of the Highway 61 recording sessions than to play it another half dozen times this morning, then cue it up for another half dozen this afternoon, and on into the evening. It simply doesn’t get any better.
