Hot Weather Cold Water

Water Temperature: 76°

t weather cold water

Of the six days I’ve dipped in the pool this season, that’s the coldest the water has been, after briefly reaching 82° on the heels of a few 90+° air temp days.

I don’t mind the chill. I wouldn’t want it much warmer. Whatever the air temp is out today, the humidity made it intolerable. After backwashing the pool with Susan, I took Gertie’s cage off into the shade on the other side of the driveway for an overdue cleaning. The shade did nothing to cool down the early evening sweltering over: within minutes, the “exertion” of scrubbing the cage wire with an old toothbrush had me sweating so profusely that I couldn’t see.

Sometimes I find myself very seriously hating this cursed city’s idea of weather.

Memo To Self

memo to self

I need to help remember to bring along the reusable grocery bags. Does us no good when they’re sitting back at the house.

New soda for me: Big Peach, made by Big Red. Also picked up a tapioca pudding snack pack.

Susan gave me approval to purchase anything Krogers had in the far back corner of the store until she saw they had a Harley sitting there. Later amendment to her approval: if I could swing the Harley within no more than the amount tab for our basket of groceries – about $115 for this trip – then I am allowed to purchase two. So if McCain’t wins in November and continues the W Administration’s policies, by next year maybe a grocery cartful will be more expensive than a hog, and I’ll be on two wheels!

Best Thing On

best thing on

Dish Network farts yet again.

We never had any of this until our old satellite box burned out late last year and we picked up this new one. I must admit, this new box is a significant improvement, what with its artificial intelligence capability: when it recognizes that there’s nothing but crap on the screen, it gives us this sort of programming, which is far far far superior to whatever had happened to show up by default otherwise. And infinitely more responsive than if we were “relying” on cable.

Clean Trunk

void

A little more than nine months after loading the Blue Bug up to move from my old office, I can finally see the vehicle’s trunk floor.

Didn’t manage to find the missing flash drive, nor the travel power converter Kelly gave me for Christmas. But did find seven — yes, seven! — new toothbrushes that had been given to me by my dentist over several years worth of visits.

And not only is the righthand view temporary, quickly occupied by a small box of sorted junk; but other sort piles moved to the Blue Bug front seat (a few things I can use at the office), the Blue Bug back seat (books), my side of the bed (just a few books I want to peek through this afternoon, a CD I need to sync to the Zen, and a few papers to file, all to be cleared from deck today), and my nightstand (chronic exposure to clutter). Even so, half a large garbage bag (including two quite wayward ancient photographs that Susan declined to rescue) made its way from the car trunk out to the street for trash pickup tomorrow morning.

Pocket PC Radio

pocket pc radio
Used to ride the bus to work, used to like to listen to the radio as much or more than CDs or mp3s. And thought it neat to be able to do so on a Pocket PC, versus just going the far simpler route of getting a more suitable radio.

Don’t ride the bus anymore: the few times I do get into the office these days, the Blue Bug’s radio serves well enough. Don’t use the Pocket PC anymore: did retrieve the ancient Palm, which Jenny never did use all that much, but I rarely use that and this radio card doesn’t work with Palm anyway. Whenever I do ever want the radio on the run these days, my Zen Vision:M even lets me record what I’m listening to, should I want. I’ve long lost the CD that goes with this radio card, so even if the Blue Bug’s trunk heat hasn’t destroyed it, I doubt it would do anyone else any good. So much as I hate throwing anything like this out, it bids farewell to my world.

Only one parting question: how the hell did it manage to sit in my vehicle’s trunk for so long without its headset’s cords tangling any more than this?

Zen Made Simple

zen made simple

Several earbud sets and two different cables for plugging my Zen Vision:M into my Blue Bug’s radio demonstrate how simple digital music can be to listen to.
