Dishing It Out

dishing it out
Dish Network burps again.

I wanted to find when an NBA game would be on tonight and schedule it to switch over. Instead, this black -and-white pretender took over the set. After which, none of the remote buttons would respond, not a single one. Turning the TV off and back on did nothing to remove the screen. Nor would the satellite box itself even turn off (and it didn’t occur to me to just throw the fuse on the whole damn thing).

I’m dangerous with a remote under such circumstances, so sought for assistance, but everyone else in the house was busy, so I experimented further. Finally, switching control of the set to TV, changing the channel to produce total static, then switching back to the satellite channel gave me the following, which then took several minutes to find something overhead:

dish burp 2 dish burp 3

dish burp 4
And finally my TV broke loose of the block of ice Dish in which had encased it.

Daring it to repeat its burp, I again navigated to the theme menu. This time, it worked fine: this is what that first black-and-white screen was supposed to look like.

I’ve not been terribly impressed with Dish lately. That doesn’t mean I’m going to be looking around. The local cable company already stole too much of my money for extended periods of absolutely no service, and I’m not interested in asking them to steal from me again. I’ll just put up with these burps and experimenting with the remote.

Recyclists

recyclists
I started writing and haven’t yet found the last word so haven’t yet stopped.

I looked for a way to do some of my writing online and during the past decade have been a nomad through several different blogging communities.

Intrigued with how web technology extends journalling with features like video, sound, and images, I briefly participated in one blog community in which members documented a day in their lives through digital photographs.

A response to one of my day’s snapshots of taking up our trash chided us for failing to recyle the mob of soda cans we tend to collect here.

We took the comment seriously enough to start recycling our cans.

Today, Susan and Nat stopped by the Container Store and purchased containers to extend our recycling efforts to glass and paper.

Nat did the lettering on the container lids.

I wrote about it all here.

Chore Breaks

chore breaks
Susan and Nat are cleaning house today. Nat even dusted the ceiling fan blades, which had managed to accumulate piles of dust despite continuously turning!

I’m working from the house today; but during breaks while my computer chugs through its attempts to keep pace with me, I putter around helping out some with the chores: clean the bathroom mirrors; tidy and clean my sink; clean the master toilet; vacuum the master bathroom and master bedroom; and scrub the shower floor.

Possibly a Renouncement

with one comment

Starting with this post, I will no longer waste my time with WordPress tags. Instead, I’m going to have to waste precious time going back through all my past posts to remove tags that WordPress has rendered useless.

Which might be the beginning of the complete end of WordPress for me. I suppose I could always go with using the software on a host of my own; but if I ever get back to that point, I swear I’m going to just “roll my own,” the way I used to a decade ago. Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, but why post this on the back of the door of the men’s restroom on the second floor of New Orleans’ Royal Sonesta Hotel?

Perhaps I should seek an explanation from the idiot who tried to patronize me with an explanation of why some baby-changing stations in men’s restrooms carry instructions in braille.
