Halftime Routine – First Draft

with one comment

Nat gives us a preview of the halftime routine she’ll be leading the San Jac cheerleading squad through during their final performance of the regular basketball season next Tuesday night. While watching her here, I was cutting a dozen CDs of the routine’s music for her to hand out to her squad members . . . too late getting hit with the brainstorm that I ought to have filled a little of the blank space on each of those CDs with some pictures and videos of the cheerleaders’ year.

pension cash and cost downEmployer contributions to defined benefit pension plans (blue) and net periodic pension cost (red) for fiscal years 2003-2007 for 115 S&P 500 companies. We’re still missing most of the big plan sponsors; but IBM’s 2007 financial statement came in today, and all told we’ve now got data representing the experience of over $ 2/3 trillion in pension assets.

Old Friend

pistachio wanting out

Amazing how much staying power some web content has!

A pic of another cat brought back to my memory my old friend Pistachio, shown here asking to be let outside. Which sent me off on an Internet hunt for a very distant note written generations ago in Internet time: Pistachio’s home page!

From so long ago, I can’t remember what distant e-mail address I might have used back then, so there is no possible way to retrieve the password to correct several editorial errors nor to add her picture to that page. Still is nice to see her memory remains there.

tuna melt option

In lieu of Thai curry noodles, the original plan when I first ventured out into the kitchen to scrounge up a late lunch.

With mozarella and cheddar cheese. Would have added swiss cheese if I could have found it.

Anti-Piracy

It had to be asked: Pirates (1) or Ninjas (2) ?

strawpoll

Response: ninjas – precision and stealth over sloppy brutality.

Or beauty over ugliness. Or perfection over degradation. One may as well ask which I prefer, a fine line artfully drawn by a skilled calligraphic pen, versus some accidental smudge.

As Expected, Pension Funded Status Over 100%

pbo funded status exceeds 100%

As has been expected since as early as mid-December last year, once we had a fair idea where the market and corporate bond rates would settle, the aggregate funded status for defined benefit pension plans, measured on the basis of projected benefit obligations, crossed the 100% threshold during 2007.
