Not Even Worth Background Noise

leave a comment »

Eh, serves me right for having Tom Cruise serve as background television in the first place. But then ABC decides to ditch the movie for some idiotically endlessly long intermission thing – what was that piece of junk, an ABC self-serving commercial? – for some stupid show of theirs I never cared to have filling my ears anyway. As good an illustration as you could put together for why I never bother to watch ABC except when I go braindead like I did here – you’re either already numb enough to have already been watching their junk so didn’t need this stupid commercial of theirs reminding you how badly you’d already wasted your time with them, or else you had been doing your best to steer clear of that kind of junk food so didn’t care to have it shoved down your throat in lieu of Tom Cruise’s own brand of farce. Whatever. I didn’t care to see the rest of War of the Worlds anyway. But at least ABC had my attention long enough to remind me why I won’t tune into them again for maybe a year or so, longer if I’m lucky.

Grocery Goodies!

leave a comment »

Grocery GoodiesOn our way back to the house from the overtime San Jac basketball game, we stop at Krogers – we won’t rent a steam cleaner there ever again, but it will remain our primary grocery store, at least for now. Main goal: hamburger buns and other needs for tomorrow eveningafternoon‘s grilling, plus Texas Toast for the French toast I’ll be making tomorrow morning.

To that add several treats for me: Krogers macaroni salad; a four-pack of the new Sunkist orange Float; and some Whoppers strawberry milkshake malted milk balls. You can see how excited I am!

San Jac Sends It To Overtime

leave a comment »

After losing a 22-11 lead in the first half, then losing a 55-44 lead rebuilt in the second half, San Jac struggled valiantly against certain defeat during the final minute of regulation play against Trinity Valley. Upon finally pulling within 1 point with about 6 seconds left to play, San Jac quickly sent the Cardinals to the foul line, where at the beginning of this video clip Trinity Valley opened up a 3-point lead on the second of its two free throws, 76-79.

Nat, San Jac’s head cheerleader at the far right edge of the end of this video clip, shows her excitement over what happens next – the Ravens send the game into overtime.

Where, sad to say, San Jac then returned to the same failed strategy that saw them lose their two regulation-time leads, too quickly going for poor 3-point attempts instead of working for better openings. San Jac lost in overtime 83-85.

Cheerleader Nat

Natalie leads the San Jac cheerleading squad during a Saturday afternoon basketball game against Trinity Valley.
Whenever San Jac successfully makes a free throw at the other end of the court, (most of) the cheerleaders celebrate with a backflip.
Natalie provides the base a one-man stretch.
Natalie is viewed through a rolled up basketball game program.

Ribbed Clouds

Ribbed CloudsOn our way to an afternoon basketball game at San Jac, the sky has several layers of clouds, one of them giving ribs to the gray ceiling.

Two Gray-Haired Beasts

Two Gray-Haired BeastsKitty is miffed that he was not permitted to step outside to see his shadow this morning. He displays his annoyance by giving up his normal Saturday morning sleeping spot on top of Susan’s head to lounge where he can most effectively block my feet during a brief break in my morning chores. From one gray-haired beast to another: get over it, Kitty.

Spring Shadows

leave a comment »

Spring ShadowsPunxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, chasing him back into his knoll for another six weeks of winter. But neither Shubenacadie Sam nor Wiarton Willie saw a shadow, so both called for an early end to winter for Canada.

Down here, Actuary Adrien predicts another six thousand weeks of the same old weather that Houston always sees: year-round summertime. He throws his own shadow in the warm morning sun vacuuming up the pool.

Chore Day Coffee Break

leave a comment »

Chore Day Coffee BreakMaking enough coffee to fuel the rest of the morning’s chores, plus some for Nat.

I’ve got the Zen on shuffle mode this morning, so have been working my early chores to the usual eclectic assortment spanning from a selection from Jesus Christ Superstar to several Dylan to the Wallflowers to Jim Reeves to Frank Sinatra to the second Strauss horn concerto, along with various other random tunes. Minor coincidence: separated by about half an hour’s listening with widely divergent music types during that period were two different versions of Dylan doing House of the Rising Sun.

More Chores

More ChoresNext round of chores: emptied the three cat boxes; worked some on cleaning the stove (that will take a fair amount of additional elbow grease through the day before I’m satisfied); and cleaned off my nightstand (always more a chore than it ought to be, since that’s the biggest clutter magnet in the house). And a few other little odds & ends.

Chore Day Break #1First coffee break of this chore day: downloading a few pix; first few notes on the day; inspirational touches and the wrong way of practicing avoidance. A smile, a wink, and I’m back to morning chore duty.

Early Start to a Chore Day

leave a comment »

Early Start to a Chore DayAwake early enough to get a fair start on a day of chores, cleaning: the master toilet; the master bath; master bathroom mirrors; my sink and sink area; and a few little other touches. Just a little start, lots of shoveling ahead, many chores to share. Sing and dance this Saturday away.
