Dr. Steamclean

leave a comment »

Only the third round of steam cleaning for today, although we had the rental machine home (and cleaned, since Krogers rents out dirty equipment) by 4pm. Blame outdoor work, dinner, watching some playoff football (cheers for the Giants!!) and having fun with WordPress.

Since tomorrow is a federal holiday, I’ll finish up this chore then.

Dinnertime Breakfast Smiley

Dinnertime Breakfast Smiley Susan and Nat made breakfast for dinner tonight. Tim joined us. Two plates of leftovers were made up for Brandon and Kelly.
[Nothing much to add here. I just rearranged this post upon realizing that Microsoft’s wannabe browser doesn’t know how to handle basic HTML when it involves placement of pix anything beyond the very most basic…]

No Palm Breeding Allowed

Palm Tree SurgeryWhile waiting on the pool pump’s backwashing, Susan wanted to defrock one of our palm trees of a new seed thing. (Why don’t trees wait for spring to sprout such stuff?)

OK, first the tree cutting thing needs to be fixed – it fell apart the last time I used it, and I hadn’t fixed it yet. Then I took over the cutting part (and the pulling it out of the pool part). Followed by cutting down two more dead palm branches.

Time Out from Inside Job

Backwashing the PoolOne of my cell phone “choreograph” auto-reminders works for once! While waiting for the third pot to finish boiling for the steam cleaning I’ve strated today, the Sunday 5pm reminder to check the pool chlorinator buzzed. And instead of ignoring it as I normally do, I went out to check the pressure.

Up to 22. Kinda like me having a BP in triple digits: enough to warrant backwashing the pool. Except I probably ought to have cleaned the pool skimmers out anyway, high pump pressure or not.

Susan came outside to help. She had no coat to put on, although the temperature is what, down in the 40s? So I made her put my new leather on, while I took the old leather.

Still Steaming

Krogers Rents Out Cleaners They Would Charge You Extra If Returned In the Same StateKrogers will charge you an extra fee if you return a rented steam cleaner to them in this condition. But that apparently doesn’t mean that Krogers will make sure that they rent you a steam cleaner that starts out clean, nor will they give you a credit for a dirty cleaner or give you the surcharge they collected from the previous user.

So let me try this one again, just to be sure I have it straight. If I just leave this steam cleaner in the back of my car and don’t use it at all, simply return it the way they gave it to me, they’re going to charge me for returning it to them as dirty as it is the way they gave it to me?

This must be just a way to collect extra income from some customers . . . while reminding customers like me that they really don’t care to have my business. And after this rented cleaner is returned to them, they no longer will.

Steaming

SteamingI’ll be steam-cleaning the carpets this afternoon (in between breaks for watching a little football and puttering with a little journaling) and tomorrow morning (to honor the MLK federal holiday).

No thanks to Krogers at the corner of Beltway 8 and Sabo south of Houston, where we rented the steam cleaner. Today, at least, their customer service acts as if they would rather not have customers to service, so risk making sure of that in the worst way: strongly encouraging us not to be Krogers’ customers for at least this service in the future.

Eh, we used to have our own steam cleaner until it burned out this last summer. And a house with as many carpets and as many pets as our probably needs a new steam cleaner of its own, instead of relying on the substandard service Krogers feels like it can get away with on a Sunday afternoon when a guy’s supposed to be watching football anyway, right?

Bennigan’s Steak

leave a comment »

Bennigans SteakI almost never select steak at a restaurant, but felt in the mood for red meat today at the Gulf Pointe Bennigan’s sharing lunch with Susan, Nat, and Tim. This is Bennigan’s Fire-Grilled 8oz. Angus Sirloin.

Not currently shown on their on-line menu, but well worth the choosing, was a new appetizer: egg roll versions of their Monte Cristo.
