Closing Out Another Month

leave a comment »

Closing Out Another MonthAnd another cycle. End of the first month that the main provisions of PPA have been in effect.

On the hobby side of my professional interests, the first 2007 annual statement was filed this week by any S&P 500 company with a 12/31 fiscal year end. Although it was not a pension plan sponsor, it marks the beginning of the deluge. The next month will see me heavily preoccupied with that obsession, although I already know most of what I will be seeing.

Update Standards

leave a comment »

Update StandardsOn one of those long conference calls when I wish I had earphones instead of having to keep this old thing up against my ear. Or else to be there in the conference room, where it would be easier to join in this discussion. Which today gets knotted around the issue of whether we need to have annual standards in order to properly implement a law that calls for annual updates. Can one realistically update annually unless one has an annual standard? Well, yes, one can . . .

Dawn’s Early Dark

leave a comment »

Dawn's Early DarkI’ve done nothing with any software to darken that picture up. If anything, it looked even darker to the natural eye. Although it’s after 9 in the morning, usually of course quite bright looking up toward Houston at the very left edge of this shot or Reliant Stadium at the far right.

We had one huge thunderclap shortly after this pic was snapped, but little if any rain. Then a very brisk wind blew everything from the sky, making it a cloudless blue by the early afternoon.

Study in Black & WhiteEveryone’s off at the basketball game. Among other things meaning that I have all three dogs to myself. Quite a rare snapshot around here, for all of them to be on my side of the bed.

Waiting for Take-Out

leave a comment »

Waiting for Take-OutGood day at the office, but brain-draining, and I’m pretty much wiped out. I’ve stopped at Olive Garden to pick up salad and breadsticks for four, to go with the lasagna that Susan has made for the cheerleaders eating at the house before tonight’s basketball game.

I decide to pick up some fetuccini alfredo with shrimp for a late lunch for me. They take an order of soup to go along with that; but I’ll find out when I unpack it all that they gave me an extra salad instead. *shrug* As is, the shrimp alfredo together with the day’s fatigue will wipe me out in a long, deep nap that will see me just starting to wake up as the girls are leaving for the game, too groggy to join them or be good for much else the remainder of the evening.

Back Streets In

Back Streets InHighway signs suggested there might be trouble ahead at 59 this morning, so I left the 610 loop this morning at for the local back streets in, using the route I initially used my first few days at this new job last August.

Less Pressure

Less PressureBP this morning is a little more like what I would like to see as my high. Now let’s ease it back down from here. And a little more energy this morning would be good, too.

Still Brushing Against My Ceiling

Still Brushing Against My CeilingStill working to try to pull my BP back to reasonable levels.

Doc said if I need to, I should double up on my clonidine dosage. OK, until further notice that will be the norm, instead of just ad hoc.

Peace? Bingo!

leave a comment »

Peace? Bingo! He really couldn’t say anything about the true state of the union without endangering his party’s chances in the upcoming election, could he?

So the only way we could put up with having this rescue us from all the other junk we are stupid enough to pay our cable bills for is to play bingo. I thought I was sunk on this, my third board: like he can say the word “peace” and keep a straight face? Yeah right. *rolls eyes*

But then he actually said the word! Not in any context that suggests that we can expect to see it anytime soon. But hey, a bingo is a bingo anyway you get it, right?

Cloudy Dawn

leave a comment »

Cloudy DawnInsomnia again. Mild, slept pretty soundly until 3:30am, but didn’t get back to sleep after that. Until after my shower, when I was feeling light-headed, like my bp may have been oscillating wildly like that morning about a year and a half ago, when I collapsed in the airport. So I lay down to let things settle down, and dozed lightly for an extra hour, only a light pinch relaxing me along the way.

Heading down the road late ran me into more traffic, so I parked on the roof for the first time in a month or so. Which offered me an unobstructed view of early sunlight breaking through scattered cloud cover.

Zen Tracks [17] Paul Simon: Bridge Over Troubled Water [Demo Version]

Zen Vision MBridge Over Troubled Water [Demo Version]Paul Simon1964-1993 Disc 1
[2:34] * * * *

Hooked up end to end with the title track from the S&G BOTW album, this is near a five star for me. That’s the song, its lyrics and the music. The emotion and sentiment itself gets a 10, even if my Zen Vision:M won’t rate items with that many stars.

In Transit IntransitiveNo objects anywhere within reach. Sleep that eluded me so easily last night comes in the back seat of the Bitty Burb while S and N run a few errands after lunch.

Tuna Salad Sandwich

leave a comment »

Tuna Salad SandwichSusan has been hungry for Panera for the better part of the week, but I’ve been too sick to feel like going out, Kelly isn’t high on Panera, and Nat’s been busy elsewhere.

Tuna salad sandwich for me. But my mind was elsewhere, mostly reaching for that sleep I missed last night, so I forgot to order the cream of chicken and rice soup I would have added to my lunch.

But this did enough to keep me.

Good & Willing

leave a comment »

Good & WillingGood enough to get out of the house, that is. And willing, as long as we only stop by for a quick visit, then head on to lunch.

I only got about two hours of sleep last night, so I could use a nap. But I’ve got cabin fever big time, so I jump at the chance to accompany S and N on an excursion to drop off some clothes and knickknacks at our local Goodwill site. Where there was already an imposing mountain of used clothes, nearly to the establishment’s ceiling. Good thing we’re just donators, not volunteers.
