handling truncation

in a numerical analysis class my teacher explained that truncation difficulties could be avoided by coding into th computer an A for truncated repeating “ones,” B for “twos,” C for “threes,” and so on. th computer could be programmed to operate on A, B, C, and th others at th same time that it operated on th significant digits

when a student mentioned that truncated digits were rarely as simple as repeating identical digits, then th suggestion was made that linear combinations of A, B, C, and th others could be used
